Christian Education Ministry

Christian education for children and adults is a vital ministry of Community Lutheran Church. Many opportunities to learn about the Bible and to know our Lord are offered throughout the year.

Sunday Church School provides classes for persons aged 3 through adult on Sunday mornings from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. You can make a difference by becoming a Teacher or Aide to bring the Good News to learners of any age.

Special Sunday School events include:

  • Rally Day in September
  • Christmas pageant
  • Sunday School awards program
  • Lenten Service Project

Bibles are presented to Third Graders to fulfill the promise we make at Baptism, to place the Scripture in their hands so they can read and learn about the Christian faith.

First Communion classes provide instruction to Fifth Graders to prepare them for Holy Communion.

Confirmation Classes prepare Seventh and Eighth grade students for their Affirmation of Baptism on Reformation Sunday in October.

Vacation Bible School is a special summer week of learning and special activities.

Sunday School students participate in Service Projects to grow their faith even more. Find out how you can help as a Service Project coordinator or in other ways!

Christian Education --- How You Can Help

Sunday School Teachers and Aides teach children about Jesus and establish a strong faith base for the future. The important work of "equipping the saints" begins at age three and continues on through adulthood. Teachers must be confirmed members. Aides are typically confirmation age or older.

Teachers' main activities are to prepare the lessons prior to Sunday morning and then present lessons on Sunday during our Learning Hour. Teachers are responsible for the careful presentation of the material and for the safety of the children and learners in their care. They manage the classroom and classroom activities. They are assisted by Teacher's Aides on Sunday morning. Multiple teachers will be assigned to each classroom so you're not alone! Substitute teachers are available if you cannot attend a Sunday Morning session.

The Sunday School Superintendent selects materials, leads workshops and training sessions and manages registration activities. The Superintendent is a resource to the teachers, aides and pastors.

Each Summer, Vacation Bible School is a week long educational event. VBS needs teachers, aides, musical assistants, photographers plus other volunteer activities. VBS volunteers need to be available during the week of VBS. (Although your assistance in preparation prior to VBS is very welcome!) Previous teaching experience is not required.

The Christian Education team uses special events to enhance the learning process. Coordinators for special events, such as The Smile Train, collecting pop tops, planting the Giving Garden and other educational events are needed.

Volunteers for Christian Education will be required to follow our Youth Protection Policy while volunteering in any Christian Education role that has direct contact with our children.

If you have questions, would like more information, or want to volunteer, please email the Christian Education Team .
